Dear Worship Leaders: Thank YOU!

I’m going on 11 weeks since I’ve led worship…since I’ve gone to a worship team rehearsal…since I’ve had to wake up at 5am on Sunday morning…since I’ve been THE worship leader at a church.

As a worship leader who is not currently leading anywhere, but still plugged into a church (a great church), I’d like to take this time to thank those of you who are worship leaders, worship pastors, or whatever your official title may be.

Dear Worship Leader,

Thank you. Thank you for taking the time each week to prayerfully select songs that you believe your church should sing together.

Thank you for spending time each week to practice the songs on your own, and then with the worship team…until you’re sick and tired of that same chord progression by Sunday.

Thank you for putting up with complaints about how loud the drummer was OR how long the intro was to that first song OR how you didn’t play someone’s favorite hymn the way they like it.

Thank you for submitting to your pastor’s leadership even when you may not see eye to eye.

Thank you for making the sacrifice to go to bed early every Saturday night so you can wake up at the crack of dawn on Sunday and get to church before anybody else does.

Thank you for keeping a high standard, not just musically, but spiritually so that we as a church are giving God our very best.

Thank you for not making worship just about music, but for teaching us about what it means to worship in spirit and truth.

Thank you for going up there to lead us in worship week after week, even though sometimes you just don’t feel like it.

Thank you for taking your calling & role seriously, but not taking yourself too seriously.

Thank you for not making it about you, but for always making it all about HIM!

I want to encourage you…

When those dreaded emails arrive in your inbox Monday morning…don’t give up!

When the drummer is a “no show”…don’t get discouraged!

When the guy you invested months into training up decides to leave your church…don’t give up!

When the need seems so overwhelming and no one seems to step up…don’t get discouraged!

When people surround you with criticism and tell you to quit…don’t give up!

When the soundman comes late to sound check every week…don’t get discouraged!

Stand strong.

Take courage. Lead with confidence, not in yourself and your abilities, but in Christ who gives you strength! Lean into Him. Trust in Him. Find Him in that secret place. Get alone with Him so you can tune out all other voices and hear His gentle whisper. He likes you. He loves you. He is crazy about you! He has a calling on your life!

Don’t give up!
