Countryman Earclips: The Positive & The Negative
February 16, 2010
At SSCC we have been using & loving our E6(i) ear sets for years now. We bought our first one 8 years ago I think (I was the youth pastor then). However, we have recently been hampered by them not wanting to sit still on people’s heads. I think this is mainly a result of multiple people using the headsets and having to reshape them, the earpiece especially, every time. (I know that keeping them seperate for different communicators would help this but it is not an option overall for us. We have 18 earsets and 30 or so people that use them.) I saw an earclip accessory in a magazine a couple of weeks ago and ran it by our pastor and we decided we needed to check one out. We used it this Sunday morning and loved almost everything about it.
Creativity the missing piece(s) – Part 2 – Remove the Filter
February 10, 2010
A while back…ok, quite a while back I started writing a bit about using a creative team to plan worship services. (If you missed that article check it out here.) Well, here we are back in the saddle again.
A Theology of Worship – Part Four
February 8, 2010
It would be good to examine two different types of worship that James Torrance labels “Unitarian worship” and “Trinitarian worship.” At face value Unitarian worship is about worshiping God the Father and about us bringing a sacrifice to him. The problem with Unitarian worship comes when this question is posed: what, in and of ourselves, do we have to offer God that would be pleasing to him? The only answer is: nothing, absolutely nothing. Trinitarian worship is a bit more complex; through the power of the Holy Spirit we are connected with the Son in his worship of the Father. In his book, Experiencing the Trinity, Darrell Johnson offers the following:
Perspective

Perspective: the state of one’s ideas, the facts known to one.
We each have our own unique perspective on things. No wonder there is often disagreement within ministry.
Why Don’t You Sing More Hymns?
January 25, 2010
25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them …
(Acts 16:25, ESV – YouVersion.Com)
For all those who have heard or said, “why don’t you just sing more hymns” …
What exactly is a “hymn”?
According to Merriam-Webster.Com, a hymn is:
Etymology: Middle English ymne, from Old English ymen, from Latin hymnus song of praise, from Greek hymnos
1 a : a song of praise to God b : a metrical composition adapted for singing in a religious service
2 : a song of praise or joy
3 : something resembling a hymn
My guess is that Paul and Silas weren’t singing “A Mighty Fortress is our God”. Read more
What Songs Should We Sing In Light Of Haiti?
January 18, 2010
As I prepared for this past Sunday’s worship set I had a very heavy heart. The stories and images coming out of Haiti are truly heart breaking and challenging at many levels. This past week Dennis Miller was asking for Christians to call into his radio show and explain how God allows this to happen. I listened every day as people would call in and espouse 1 of 2 theories.
A Theology of Worship – Part Three
January 13, 2010
If I could summarize the shift in how worship is presented in the New Testament from the Old Testament it would be with this: Jesus.
I Am Not THE Worship Leader (and for that matter, neither are you)
January 8, 2010
In the most important sense of the term, I am not THE “worship leader”.
Yes, I lead people in song, and on my best days (hopefully, MOST days) I encourage them to sing to God, but that’s not necessarily ‘worship’, and at best that makes me a ‘lead worshiper’ or a (oh, I do hate the name) ‘song-leader’, not a worship leader.
