Words of Encouragement: An Experience From A TWC Member

Thanks to TWC member Trent Smith for sharing this experience with us.

Yesterday I was putting down my guitar after church when two 10-year-old girls came running up on stage (have you noticed that 10-year-old girls always come in pairs?).

They had that vibe about them…that “I’m-about-to-do-the-bravest-thing-I-have-ever-done” vibe.

One of the girls looked right in my eye and announced, at breathless warp speed, “I wrote a song about God and I want to sing it for you……unless you are busy right now.” [Read more...]

Review: iSingWorship – The Backing Track for the 21st Century

Thanks to Mark Snyder for sharing this tech review with The Worship Community.

I recently had the opportunity to take a look at some cool new technology on the IPod/IPad. I am not a ‘worship techie’ as much as some people, but I do like to look at technologies to arm the small church and small group gatherings, because this is where I do most of my worship leading time and where I like to target our worship resources.

Backing tracks and technologies to play them are great. Loop programs such as Ableton, GarageBand, or even just a keyboard are great to allow the band to ‘virtually’ come alongside a vocalist or single guitarist for a fuller sound. The biggest issue with loops is allowing spontaneity – how can you repeat a part, loop a part, or even just jump to a quiet instrumental then back into a chorus? Well-trained live bands can do this and they know how to do the transition, but a looping program is lacking for this. [Read more...]

GIVEAWAY AT BOTTOM OF INTERVIEW

With so much music coming out of both the mainstream and indie scenes lately it’s hard to keep up. One of the things I love about being a part of such a large music community is that it sometimes reaches beyond our city and introduces us to new faces. This is the case with Brandon Gilliam. Gilliam has been leading and equipping others in corporate worship for over seven years. Serving as worship pastor at River’s Crossing Community Church in Cincinnati, OH. [Read more...]

5 Ways To Use Technology At Your Church

Thanks to Matt Starner for allowing us to republish this article today at TWC. Originally published at MatthewStarner.com.

If your church isn’t on the technology train yet or you’re wondering if there’s something new that you might be missing, here’s some places to start:

5. Get On Facebook

Unless you’ve been under a technological rock for the last 5 years, Facebook is pretty much the biggest thing since, well, the internet. Right now, Facebook boasts some 800 million active members. In the United States, more than half of adults are active on Facebook. In short, if your church doesn’t have a presence on Facebook, you’re missing out.
