What worked really well and what didn’t work as well as you’d like? What issues did you have preparing? What is the sermon series? How about creative elements used in the service? You don’t have to be the pastor or worship leader to participate. We would really love to get reviews from the perspective of those in our congregations each week.

Happy Thanksgiving 2011 From The Worship Community

We’d like to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving this weekend. Enjoy the time with family and friends!

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. Colossians 3:15-16

Thoughts on Worship

We talk a whole lot about “Worship” around here. In fact, our name is The WORSHIP Community. We’re an online community that is based on “Discussing All Things Worship.” In one sense, we’re a community devoted to discussing all things that have to do with the musical time of worship. In another sense, we’re a community dedicated to discussing all things worship service related. This might include things outside of the scope of a time of song and music.

So, what is worship? There have been many deep and philosophical posts on this topic throughout the years, some here and some elsewhere. The word worship (and its many interpretations) is at the heart of many discussions, debates, and disagreements. We’d all agree that the idea of “worship” in the context of how it is expressed in our corporate gatherings can be a pretty explosive topic. [Read more...]

Review/Interview: Hymns & Sacred Songs by Leigh Nash

Thanks to Melanie Siewert for providing this review and interview for The Worship Community!

Leigh Nash fans are in for a special treat!  After 5 years, she is releasing her first solo album, Hymns & Sacred Songs through Kingsway.  For those who are unfamiliar with Nash, she is the lead voice of Sixpence None The Richer.  Hits like Kiss Me and Breathe Your Name, made Sixpence a mainstay in American pop culture.  When asked to record an album of hymns with Kingsway, Nash jumped at the opportunity.  Hymns & Sacred Songs holds a special value to Nash, and she graciously shared some of her thoughts with TWC. An Open Letter to Worship Songwriters

Thanks to Wisdom Moon (founder of All About Worship) for sharing this post with us today. It was originally published on AllAboutWorship.com.

This is an open letter to worship songwriters, from the ones that make a living writing worship songs to those that are just starting to write, and everyone in between.

PLEASE STOP regurgitating what’s already been said in a hundred other worship songs. We don’t need another song that says the same thing as “How Great is Our God”, “Mighty to Save”, and “You Never Let Go”. Write something fresh.

PLEASE STOP using the same chord progressions (i.e. A – E – F#m – D). Try something new and exciting. It’s okay to explore. [Read more...]
